Frederick Valentich

21 October 1978 · Bass Strait, Australia

A 20 year old pilot flying a Cessna 182 to King Island radioed Melbourne that an unknown aircraft was circling above him. His last transmission ended in a long metallic noise. No trace of him or the plane was ever found.

The Bennington Triangle

1945 to 1950 · Glastenbury Mountain, Vermont

Within five years, at least five people vanished in the woods around Glastenbury Mountain, among them a college student who set out on a hike in 1946. Only one body was ever recovered.

The Carroll A. Deering

31 January 1921 · Diamond Shoals, North Carolina

A five masted schooner was found run aground off Cape Hatteras with food laid out in the galley and the crew gone. Their fate has never been settled.

The Kaz II

April 2007 · off Queensland, Australia

A catamaran was found drifting off the Great Barrier Reef with its engine running, a laptop on and the table set. The three men who sailed her were never seen again.

Lars Mittank

July 2014 · Varna, Bulgaria

A young German tourist on his way home ran out of the airport in Varna, over a fence and into the fields. The last footage of him is from the airport cameras.

How we tell a true case

Start from the record. Newspapers from the time, police and coroner reports, accident investigations, court files and maps.
Only what can be backed up. If a detail only exists in a viral post, it stays out, or we say plainly that it is unconfirmed.
Show the sources. Each video's description lists them, and Investigators and Keepers get the Case Files: the documents, maps and timelines we worked from.
Fix mistakes in the open. Spot an error? Email us and we correct it and say what changed.
